Chest problems

Many members have told us that when they get chest infections they would like help in coughing up mucus (sputum). We have searched the world wide web for you and found two excellent videos made by NHS physiotherapists. They have been viewed and approved by Royal Free medical staff. We hope you will find them useful.

The first, from specialist physio Philip Langridge at the University Hospital of South Manchester, is aimed at patients who are asked to produce a sputum sample in the clinic. It's just as useful for people who just want to get the sputum off their chest.

The second, from physiotherapist Dawn Gleeson at Forth Valley NHS in central Scotland, is aimed at people with chronic obstructive lung disease. She gives sound advice and tutors a patient, Tam, to huff up mucus.
